I've got 2 gigs and I'm running: Skype, Trillian, ObjectDock, FF2, Word, and Fireworks. with all of that, plus Vista's consumption I'm using about 48% of my memory. which equals to less than a gig. So yeah if you're running Vista plus some larger programs, a gig won't leave you with much room to move around. But if you're not going to be running massive programs at the same time and all you'll be doing is basic stuff, then a gig wouldn't be too bad. But I see your point. I personally couldn't run Vista on a gig, but someone else might.

1GB recommended... While that might be recommended by MS or some other "third party hardware recommender specialist" I won't advice anybody to get Vista as their primary OS without at least 2GB of ram.

"In fact, most programs work fine on Vista but there are some that simply don’t work. Hopefully, this will change with the release of a Service Pack."

In fact it's by far most often the software itself and not Vista that need to re-written.
