Blog and Forum Comments

I was doing some research on some basic rules for people commenting on forums and blogs in general and found a decent article titled Guide to weblog comments and wanted to share since we’ve all seen comments go crazy from time to time on various forums as well as on our own sites or blogs.

One of the points from the article I’d like to highlight is something that I see a lot around various sites and forums and I’m sure you do too:

Stay on topic.

Bloggers and forum moderators enable comments on specific posts to hear more about the content of the post. Don’t change the subject. There’s nothing more annoying than seeing a comment on a post about Hurricane Katrina that reads, “By the way, do you know anything about turtles?”

I suggest that people take a look at the article link I referenced to see some of the guidelines that are pretty good food for thought and maybe start to use them in your daily work and personal life while commenting around the internet.

Cheers,
-Sean

Etiquette on the net and saying what needs to be said. It’s a forgotten way to ’surfing’, and with the huge deluge of blogs today, the problem has worsened. Hope people take heed and spend more than 2seconds per comment.

Agreed. People need to learn better web Etiquette for sure and that’s part of the reason for my article. I want to help make the web a better place and with the list I found, it’s a good start for people to read, learn and expand on.

Hi Yvonne. Feel free to submit an article anytime. That’s one of the ideas behind the side for community involvement.
